Classes Description:
Orientation and Safety (5 hours)
Orientation – Includes; client rights, care setting, care team, characteristics and special needs of the population we serve, basic job responsibilities and expectations, communication, documenting and reporting, mandatory reporting.
Safety – Includes; preventing accidents and injuries to yourself and clients, universal precautions, handling emergencies. Includes 30 minutes for lunch, staff need to bring their lunch.
CORE Curriculum (40 hours)
We will be using Division of Developmental Disabilities’ curriculum; this will be used towards the LTC license. This curriculum includes; an overview of developmental disabilities, residential service guidelines and individual services, effective communication, ISP/IISP services, personal care skills and support, nutrition and dietary guidelines, healthcare/health management, medication management, emergency procedures, abuse and neglect, confidentiality, and ISS staff roles/self-care/boundaries/communication. Student must attend each day.
Population Specific (30 hours)
Our population specific class included modules on client diagnosis, reading and using the Care Plan, consumer diagnosis and completing caregiver skills, CPR/FA certification, BBP, IP Procedures, and more. Students must take the all modules from Cascade Connections.
