Cascade Connections has been serving Whatcom County for over 40 years, offering a wide range of services that support people with disabilities in achieving independence and personal growth. Volunteers play a vital role in this mission, helping to enrich lives through skill-building, hands-on support, and community engagement. Whether you’re volunteering your time helping with yardwork, construction projects, or assisting at events, every contribution helps create a more inclusive and compassionate world.

Community Bingo Night (May 12)
Location: District Brewing (Ferndale, WA)
- Event setup
- Welcome/check-in table
- Bingo card and dauber sales
- Bingo caller or game assistants (could be an opportunity for guest appearance or cross-promotion?)

Employee Appreciation Event (June 11)
Location: Cordata Park (Bellingham, WA)
- Event setup and decoration

Inclusion Fest (July 26)
Location: Zuanich Point Park (Bellingham, WA)
- Poster and signage preparation

Maintenance and Household‑Related Volunteer Opportunities
Supported Living Homes Projects
Location: Bellingham & the Duplex (Lynden)
Description: Help maintain safe and welcoming homes for individuals in our Supported Living program. Tasks include lawn care, gutter cleaning, and general outdoor upkeep. Perfect for volunteers who enjoy hands-on work and being outside.
Duplex Projects
Location: Duplex (Lynden)
Description: Help us maintain and improve the quality of life for residents at our Duplex location. Whether you’re handy with tools, enjoy gardening, or want to support accessibility improvements, your time and skills are deeply appreciated.
Priority 1: High-Impact/Urgent Needs
These tasks directly affect safety, accessibility, and daily comfort for our residents.
- Install Address Signage
Add visible address numbers to make entrances easier to locate—especially important for emergency responders. - Build Fully Accessible Shower
Assist with remodeling the shower into a flush-floor wet room to improve safety and accessibility. - Recaulk Shower
Refresh the sealant to prevent leaks and maintain hygiene. - Replace Stove
Help install a new stove to replace the current one with malfunctioning burners and a damaged oven control. - Seasonal Lawn Care
Mow, trim, and maintain the lawn during spring, summer, and fall to keep the property welcoming and safe.
Priority 2: Property Enhancements
These projects improve the functionality and appearance of the Duplex.
- Redo Parking Area
Redefine the parking space so it’s clearly separated from the lawn. - Repair Peeling Ceiling Corner
Patch and repaint the peeling area above the shower.
Priority 3: Long-Term Improvements
These updates enhance the overall comfort and aesthetics of the homes.
- Replace Washing Machine Spigot
Requires plumbing experience to install a new spigot safely. - Build New Storage Shed
Construct or install a secure shed to replace the current one with a broken door. - Refinish Kitchen Cabinets
Sand and refinish cabinets in both homes for a fresh, clean look. - Interior Painting
Apply a fresh coat of paint to brighten and refresh the living spaces. - Beautify Garden Beds
Weed, plant, and mulch garden beds to create a peaceful and inviting outdoor space.
Business Volunteer Opportunities
Location: Various locations (Bellingham, Ferndale, and surrounding areas)
Description: We are seeking employers who are passionate about workforce development and community engagement. Volunteers can support Vocational Services Department by offering:
- Job Shadows – Let individuals observe your workplace to explore career paths.
- Informational Interviews – Share insights about your industry and career journey.
- Mock Interviews – Participate in our Interviewing Skills Workshops to help candidates build confidence and polish their presentation.
Whether you are in healthcare, manufacturing, education, retail, or skilled trades, your involvement can make a lasting impact.
