Welcome to Beyond First Aid Training: a Direct Support Professional’s guide to managing emergent healthcare needs of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. DSPs are often not medically trained and need guidelines and tools to know when to proactively protect and advocate for an individual’s health and safety. However, when they have a clear understanding of how changes in a person’s behavior, habits, and physical condition can be a sign of a greater healthcare crisis, DSPs do have the power to save lives and prevent harm.
